This is just a quick post to explain some ideas we have for new features, and any other stuff for the site.
Major things:
Minor things:
If you have any ideas for new features please let us know (@bengoldacre or @applecado on Twitter)
And an RSS feed for the blog please?
Would be nice to be able to correct and/or extend listings. Could be restricted by some sort of trust system?
This is fantastic! Exactly the sort of things I like looking at. Would it be possible to have a picture of each place or thing, upon clicking?
An idea for new type - how about an option for time bound events?
There's an brass band event in Saddleworth near Oldham that happens just once a year (http://www.whitfriday.brassbands.saddleworth.org/) but might be of interest to music nerds.
A minor thing, but being able to zoom in with the mouse scroll wheel would be really handy.
Ace! Android app would be even awesomer
Love the idea and the clean interface on the website which is great but the first two trips I've looked at the pins were a mile (literally) out and ~2.5 miles out which isn't ideal if people are going to use the website to plan their trip.
Agree with Ben - would be a lot easier to use if zooming with the scroll wheel was enabled. And I'd bump up the hover text (even just attraction name, no further details) to a major thing, as it's currently rather cumbersome, especially in high density areas.
But it's a great looking project, and I look forward to exploring some nerdy destinations. Thanks!
Umm - why is there an avatar of a woman in a Dalek costume next to my previous comment?! I am not she!
It'd be nice if the map defaulted to your location, since your lat. and long. is now included in your profile.
It would also be nice to be able to click on someone's name and see the places they've listed, maybe add them to a watch list? e.g if someone's posted places that you are interested in, chances are the other things they post about might interest you as well. It's hard to follow that at the moment.
Also a few places seem to have no visual pin but when you go to add one the Gmaps info pops up and then the screen freezes (at least for me; I was trying to add the Canal Museum)
This is just what I've been looking for though, brilliant idea!
Oh, also a list might be nice. There's a real time one updating on the home page but you can't click on it, only to this blog.
Could no. 314 be deleted? It's a duplicate of no. 233.
On an iPad I find it impossible to add a comment to a location that already has more than a few lines of text - you can't scroll down.

There seems to be a Museum of Ham (mueso del jambon) in Madrid. A museum of ham sounds the right kind of thing for NDT but I haven't seen it myself and don't understand Spanish. Could there be a notice board on which to pin queries to natives, or 'Have you Seens?' to check these things out or express a view, or put THEIR authoratative pin in the ham or whatever it is?
DismasX mentioned earlier about pins not being in quite the right place. I dropped a dead racehorse in the Irish Sea by accident when I was aiming at 'near Cambridge'. I THINK I've sorted that out but have found that getting the pin in completlely right palce is diffcult. I also pinned Roget's (Thesaurus man) grave and know exactly where the church is in real life but had to guess where it might go on the map. I might be a half mile or so out but couldn't do better. I think relying on the site for pinpoint accuracy is overoptimistic, whether or not I'd lost my dead horse in the Irish Sea or might have moved a grave haf a mile out of place. Wikipedia has the same issue and we live with it. The map can be 'indicative' surely? I can't pin a museum of canning in Stavanger, Norway at all, because whilst I know it's there I can't narrow down the pin to a street, just the whole town.
Great project - but agreed with previous comments about pins being in the wrong place. Taking for example '271' (Gosport Submarine Museum), it's shown about 2 miles as the crow flies from where it actually is, but that's on the wrong side of Portsmouth Harbour, and maybe an hour's drive away on a busy day... Any way to correct that?
Great site, guys - I'd definitely pay for an iPhone version, too.
Brilliant stuff, will get some friends together and try to boost the number of things to see in Leicestershire.
BTW, I'd pay for an android app for sure.
Cheers,
Karl

Just heard about this via Ben Goldacre, on Twitter. A truly splendid idea. And potentially, an increasingly valuable public service.
